1977 Smith Woodhouse
1977 Smith Woodhouse: decanted 2pm. Dark red, semi-opaque. Lovely looking. Nose closed. To taste very astringent, then sweetness with plums, and maybe, faintly, strawberry. Bodes well.

Re: 1977 Smith Woodhouse
My #2 of the night. I actually was looking forward to huge things from this, as I've two bottles and heard a lot about (a) it, and (b) drinking it now.
Nose: Spicy, pepper, "purple" is the name everyone gives to the fruit i smell. It was suggested it smells like bananas and lime, and upon suggestion I can find some of the banana. It's taste is light fruit; mostly in the back of my mouth and with a bit of tannin. overall, i'd say low on the fruit, but it's seeming young -- maybe 91 or 92 now, but 95 for the future.

Re: 1977 Smith Woodhouse
Smith Woodhouse: by a very long margin, the darkest of these 1977s. Lots of wacky suggestions for the nose: the waitress suggesting ‟lime and banana” (maybe the lime, no banana though for me). Somebody else suggested ‟pear”, but if so fully-ripe pear juice. Soft to taste, middle-weight, and perhaps too young. I liked, and would buy if not dear.
