Good depth of colour, deep but transparent centre. Slightly hot on the nose (which was probably due to the temperature of the room), more closed than expected but showing delightful floral elegance and cherries. Beautiful texture, sweet and ripe white cherries in the mouth. Absolutely delightful development and complexity with a wonderful elegance. Little tannins and a restrained acidity. An aftertaste full of cherry stones and only showing mild tannins. Just superb, this is a port at perfect maturity and balance and was my pick of all the 1970 ports on show this day. 95/100. Drunk 28 June 2009.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
