1991 Quinta do Vesuvio vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottle number 22224. From a 10 year anniversary case. Light in colour, pale rim but mid-red in the centre - showing some age and bricking tones. Sweet stewed fruits on the nose, a touch hot but with some lovely basil in the mix. Sweet and flavoursome in the mouth, but with a lovely acidity to balance. Plenty of baked fruit, turning to a soft caramel. The aftertaste shows a bit of heat and some lovely strawberry syrup. The length is good, but soft and low key. Very pleasant, but not something likely to hold for many years. 89/100. Drunk 25 June 2009.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
