2007 Quinta do Vesuvio vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Austere blackcurrant nose, fruity but stern. Blackcurrants in the palate; tannins a little harder than the Capella but real size and depth to this wine. Dry cocoa powder aftertaste , full of blackcurrant skins. 92-94. Drunk 28 June 2009.

Component: Vesuvio Touriga Nacional - blackcurrant nose. Sweet and silky, restrained but very ripe fruit. Softly tannic. Dry aftertaste , quite subdued and fruity; good length at a low level.

Component: Vesuvio Tinta Franca - fresh nose, roses and crushed nettles. Very smooth and sweet fruit with a floral perfume component. Tannins are slow to show, but are huge and gripping. High levels of acidity and tannin but also good levels of fruit. Very dry and tannic aftertaste that is huge in size and length.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
