Sandeman 1970.

Quite dark. Fairly direct on the nose, with a little bit of heat. Slightly different in the mouth, with a syruppy sugar being more obvious, although quite a bit of resultant heat.

Tasting the remains (kept in an air-tight sample jar) a few days later, the nose has been a bit spoilt by some taint which I didn’t notice at first; it’s also present at the end of the palate. However, it is still very drinkable. The roundness in the mouth is perhaps accented by a little violets and the heat is sufficient to make it warming in an attractive way without being overpowering.

Sandeman is one shipper I feel I ought to drink more of...

Light colour for its age - slightly browning. Small amount of heat on the nose. Mid weight with decayed red fruits. A nice glass of port but starting to go down hill.

Pale red centre, light orange on the rim. Sweet, candied cherry on the nose. Quite light weight on impact, thin and light in flavour. The mid-palate does develop some nice juniper nuances. Big aftertaste, good long length. Enjoyable enough. 85/100/ Drunk 26 August 2009.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Translucent red fading to pink, nosing of cherry. In the mouth much heat, tizer cherry fruit, with strawberry and artificial sugar.
