1994 Noval vintage port
One of the bottles acquired from Wadebridge Wines, who acquired them from Noval's agent in the UK a few years ago. Deepest in colour of the six wines from 1994 on show this evening, on a par with the Graham 1994, with the colour solid into the rim. Slightly bitter-sweet on the nose, with lots of sharp quince and peppery basil. Initially quite light in the mouth, but with a smooth and silky texture. Closed on the palate, with dry tannins and an unripe grapefruit pith undertone in the mid-palate and very subdued fruit. At first, showing little on the mid palate, but work and aeration brings out some subtle flavours. A massive aftertaste, huge in volume and with wonderful length. Gives the impression of finally being closed. One to tuck away and leave in peace for at least 5-10 years over which time it will hopefully pull itself back together. 90-92. Drunk 8 September 2009.

This TN makes me wish I had some of this!

Very dark. Grapefruit and perhaps melon on the nose. Thick texture with an acidic entry. A big brooding wine with some cherry and dark chocolate and then a very long and dry finish. One for the long term.

Closed and rather dead opening. Sort of acidic (thogh not badly) middle. Warm linger and linger and linger. This can be sipped without forgetting it. Slight fruit gum flavour towards the end which was unexpected. Big hitter with good balance. It is a teenager with star potential - wait until it becomes a Gareth Gates. Has the potential to become spectacular due to weight but needs testing. 87 at the moment but this is a puppy to watch.
