1983 Offley Boa Vista vintage port
Prompted by Derek's recent post of his experience of this wine, I opened one of mine (which came from a different source). This is the result:
An intense dark red in colour, with an opaque centre and looking 10 years younger than its 26 years. On the nose, this offers dusty bramble and loganberry, sweet and ripe with just a hint of sour lime. In the mouth the wine is dry, but with many layers of ripe fruit, gentle tannins and a strong core of ripe acidity. Beautiful development. Fruit dominates the immediate aftertaste, but this is followed by a long finish of dark chocolate and sour cherry. Absolutely delicious, a wine for today and for the next decade. 90/100, drunk on 17 October 2009 after 4 days in the decanter.
