Decanted at 12:30 following the decision in What port should I decant at lunchtime on Wednesday 4th November 2009, for me at home alone? Taylor 1970 or Kopke St Luiz 1970?.
Taylor 1970 at D+0. Bright red with a hint of pink, aka crimson. Nose has very little fruit, but plenty of that Taylor tannic signature. To taste like the nose, with big heat mid- to late-palate, that then rolls on and on. Very long, with plenty of well-melded acidity in the finish. Needs a few hours in the decanter.
1970 Taylor
Re: 1970 Taylor
Forgot to say: very wet underneath the capsule, there being a few cubic millimetres of port there.
D+6hr: very sweet. The heat has gone. Great tannic structure bit like a Taylor really but not much fruit. Perhaps I can imagine strawberry, but not much. Medium weight of acidity, good length. Lovely, but not the best possible T70.
