1963 Niepoort Vintage Port

Post by Axel P »

Tasted within the Niepoort Range on Nov 27th with Dirk Niepoort:

Perfect bottle, perfect corc. Very youthful appearance. Promising nose, though not as deep and complex as the 70. The palate was dominated by honey and toffee. Good complexity, though I expected a bit more from this year.

For Dirk this was one of the best bottles that he ever had. 17

Nose: not that exploding

taste: a very nice fruit which comes along with a little acidity, perhaps a little too dry

I had hoped for more from this vintage

Given notes from Axel P and DrDirk, just let me add:

Delicate texture, subtle aromatics and quite long on the finish. Bit fragile on the palate - seems to be in decline and gradually drying out.
This all about elegance rather than power. Agree with DrDirk, that this is somewhat of a disappointment for the vintage.

Cheers, victor
