NV Quinta do Portal Tawny 20YO

NV Portal 20 Year Old Tawny
Tasted at Quinta do Portal, with Paulo Coutinho (2/12/2009)

This is a correct glass of port, but not overly exciting. A bit lean and one-dimensional. Paulo explained that the main aim is to make an elegant 20 year old, but the elegance leans a bit too much to simplicity for my taste. Nothing very wrong with it, just not my style.

It lacks acid. It gets fat and sweet without the much needed acid to balance it. Compared to e.g. the Sandeman 20 year old tawny, this simply doesn't have the structure to be very intersting.

I had this the last time I visited Oporto and found it to be very light and uninteresting.
