1977 Warre

Post by DRT »

Served blind at this off-line at the Crusting Pipe, London, on 9th March 2010.

The ports: Wines marked "*" were purchase on the night at TCP due to a world record consumption of 1 bottle each in less than 2 hours, which included dinner

Notes left at the table.

From memory- this one I remember started off well but a strange bitterness took over after a couple of seconds. Disappointing.

Light red. A good middle-weight, dry with strawberry on the palate and a nice warm glow.

The guesses:
  • DJP: brought this bottle (0 points)
  • RLC: Graham 1985 (0 points)
  • WS1: Warre 1983 (0 points)
  • CSD: Graham 1983 (0 points)
  • AHB: Smith Woodhouse 1983 (0 points)
  • DRT: Dow 1985 (0 points)
  • MKD: Taylor 1985 (0 points)
Group score: 0/12

This got a bit better over time, but I was rather disappointed by this showing. A bit thin and dirty on the nose, with not much structure or acid in the mouth, and finishing a bit harsh (the finish did improve a bit in time). Not bad, per se, but really not what I would have expected from a 77 Warre. 83
