1960 Dow

Post by benread »

This was decanted at 5pm for drinking after dinner tonight. 1 of a number of bottles given to me at birth by my grandfather. Despite the year, I was born 1970! As my 40th approaches in very few days it seemed appropriate to open one as friends are coming for dinner who will appreciate it.

The cork as ever came out in pieces. The 1st half did however clearly confirm the vintage. However it had something I do not recall seeing before - the year of vintage and the year of bottling, both stamped on the cork.

The wine decanted cleanly and I have kept the sediment to make gravy with.

I have high hopes for this later....

This was fabulous. Beautifully integrated. Uncle Tom's note from 2008 kept coming to mind though - I think it has probably peaked. That said, I doubt it will deteriorate much for some time.
