NV Tesco Tawny 10YO (bottled 2009)

Post by angeleyes »

Bottled by Symington Family Estates, bottled 2009.

Light translucent brown, slightly pink still through the centre. Swirling shows viscosity, and a rich and sweet nose with a nice dose of heat. In the mouth, a huge hit of sweetness backed up by a lovely acidity. Brown sugar, candied peel and raisins, delicious - surprisingly so bearing in mind the combination of supermarket BOB and it being a ten-year-old. A long refreshing finish of marzipan, acidity and spice. Sticky, but not cloying (unless you have too much!). Something of a bargain - would not think this was less than £12 a bottle.

D+5 Has developed heat which is dominating the wine.

D+50 An odd wine. Lovely on opening, and then it quickly developed so much heat. Now the heat's dissipated mostly. I wonder if it's my tastebuds. Anyway, it's showing itself as a relatively simple wine with sweetness being the most prominent - perhaps too sweet for some - but not totally out of balance. There's also that chemical hint of VA on the nose, but it all seems to work - it's not a bad wine at all.
