D+30 minutes. A nice red core, with the depth and tone that would be expected from a mature vintage port. Lovely nose, full of sweet cranberry and redcurrant and a hint of dustiness. Very sweet entry, full of ripe red fruit and the surprise of the package—the soft tannins that make an appearance. Lovely combination of secondary red fruit and tertiary figs and dates. Really delicious palate. Big aftertaste with a tiny bit of heat and then a huge finish that shows the tannins again, with a very long sweet plum that slowly turns into dates. Very good port. 91/100. I can’t wait to try this with some more time in the glass.

This was the most elegant, polished wine of the night. HOWEVER, it seemed to be a bit too stuffy, not giving off enough excitement or distinction. I feel like I've met this wine at countless cocktail parties throughout my life. Princeton, Morgan Stanley, sailing. Fine. Fine. Fine. Actually, fairly enjoyable to spend time with, but not terribly memorable, and not someone you'd rush to introduce your friends to. One of the three real winners from this line-up, and a hard call to place. In the event I put it second to the Noval.

A decent wine, if a touch flabby. Barely mature still, more time won't hurt.

This was my second encounter with the Niepoort 1982 and I like it very much. The wine is very balanced and smooth but in my eyes does not lack personality as Chris claims. A very good Port indeed that has plenty of time ahead.

Darkest of the wines. Red currants in the mouth, with a long aftertaste (perhaps turning a touch bitter at the end). A very good Port that was easily the best on the night.

Deep red colour; sweet redcurrant nose with some lively tobacco. Very sweet, very balanced, medium bodied entry showing plenty of fruit and soft tannins; acidity is ripe and well balanced. Great development on the palate. Soft aftertaste, long and gentle finish. Very tasty port. 90/100. Drunk after 2 hours decanting.
