1977 Fonseca

Post by jdaw1 »

F77: dark red, 80% opaque. heat on the nose, the same having been observed at D+0, and something like red plum. DRT says dark chocolate cherry truffle. JDAW find heat, and plummy sweetness. Both agree on red plum. Whilst excellent port, one expects more body and weight (c.f., barmaid at the Treble Bob) in any of the quintet of great Fonseca years (’63, ’66, ’70, ’77, ’85). This is lighter than expected. DRT + JDAW think it mature, though not yet declining.

Unanimously second-placed in Wine Of The Weekend, trailing the Ch85.
