Emergency decant. The cork was very soft, quite loose, broke in half and released a smell of musty cardboard. Hopefully it's just the cork that smells and not the wine.
The wine is running clear and bright into the decanter as I type this. Quite translucent, looks quite mature but still very red.
More later. Probably not very much later.

Re: 1970 Quinta do Noval
I can't believe I have lasted this long:
D+20 minutes
A sweet candy smell. Not smelling of wet cardboard
Light in the mouth. Very evolved with lots of red fruits, rhubarb and some heat. This would not be top of the class in a 1970 contest but is a very nice glass of port.

Re: 1970 Quinta do Noval
After a Chicken Bhuna this is holding up well.
Quite sweet but fairly simple and more evolved than I would want a 1970 to be at this stage. After all, it's only 40 years old!
If you have any of this in your cellar I would advise drinking most of it now. It is a very nice glass of port but it's going nowhere in terms of further development/improvement. Drink up, and enjoy it while you do.
