NV Morgadio da Calcada Tawny

A new one to me. Available other than in hotel bars in Fez’ Ville Nouvelle? I have no idea.

Sold as a Porto Rogue, in the oddest glass I have ever seen for serving Port (for which I blame the French):

I think this must be a tawny. Nice on the nose; gentle cherry and a mild tawny smell. In the mouth, more cherries, a little sugar, let down by a bit of rancio.

In all honesty, for a basic category Port from a unknown shipper in a hotel bar in an African country (that could have been open for an unknown time), this exceeded my expectations. All circumstances considered, it is perfectly drinkable.

Actually, on further reflection (and three more of the five sips afforded to me by the pour size), I don’t think this is. I was obviously suffering from Port withdrawal symptoms...
