1963 Graham

Drunk at the Emergency in Wokingham & Paris on 19 Dec 2010.

Served to DRT blind as "Peculiar Port". AHB later described the bottle as a very badly ullaged Graham's 1963 with a partially failed cork that had somehow re-sealed itself with a large mouldy growth around the capsule. The mouldy growth was delicious.

From a bottle which had leaked to a level of about half-full. Very pale amber in colour, perhaps 5% opaque. Warm pastry and vanilla on the nose, with some deep quince faintly in the background. Pleasant enough, but very delicate. Hollow initial impact, but this gives way to a spicy curry as the alcohol shows through, and brings with it some enjoyable barley sugar and lime zest. Hot aftertaste, that burns as it goes down the throat, but leaves behind a mouthwatering acid dominated mild coffee and deep orange finish of impressive length. This is a completely atypical bottle due to the fill level, but an interesting insight into what a Graham 1963 colheita might have tasted like. Opened under the offline theme of "Peculiar". Not rated due to the state of the bottle. 19 December 2010.

Very light orange. Bright and clear. Not much on the nose. The palate is domiated by oranges with some heat. Nothing unpleasant at all. The finish is very long and deliciously sweet.

Certainly a peculiar example of this wine!
