Time for the next NY tasting!
I've two goals, first I am hoping for an influx of NY members -- either from Eric's article or from our own outreach (bring a friend!) -- and I'd like to give everyone a chance to get introduced before we do the Dow tasting. Second, of course, I'd like to drink port.

LBVs have been suggested several times, so let's try doing an educational LBV/VP tasting. I've the following bottles which may be of interest:

Smith Woodhouse LBV 1984,
Smith Woodhouse VP 1983
Rozes LBV 1994
Rozes VP 1994

(I've a Taylor lbv 94, too, but i doubt it's time to open it's VP brother :) ).

[strike]Beacon Restaurant worked well last time, so I'd suggest we aim for a little earlier (say 5pm) on Sunday, January 9th. Thoughts?[/strike]

Rozès 1997 needs several days of decanting. It’s terrible until the third day. I don’t know about the Rz94, but maybe it is similar.

Quite, we've judged it as a 4 day decant.

It sounds like will switch this day to Saturday Jan 8th. Sunday was only practical because Beacon has BYO on sundays; as we are to hold the tasting at g-man's place, it's BYO any day he declares it so.

Could it be relevant that I will be in NY that weekend? But not with any bottles. Maybe I could adopt?

If Julian is attending, how can I miss this?

I certainly don't mind a LBV tasting but perhaps we could up our game in honor of our surprise guest.

Agreed: now is the moment for the 1900/1904/1908 triple horizontal. Cockburn, Dow, Graham, Sandeman (all declared combinations).

As a backup, perhaps more realistic, it sounds reasonable.

I was just about to post a warning to our American friends reminding them what they are dealing with here when jdaw1 made my warning somewhat redundant.

That G did not declare 1900, and D might not have? Easy mistake to make.

Suggested improvement for software that makes Placemats:

IF AttendeeList INCLUDES jdaw1
THEN
WHERE AttendeeNationality = American
SET WaterTickBoxes x 2
ENDIF

Perhaps we can at least link the lbvs and the vps. In other words, a Warre's lbv and a Warre's vp. The lbvs and vps will not necessarily be the same years but at least we can see if there is some house consistency in style. I can't imagine how many combos Julian might be able to handle on his own; for us mere mortals, one combo per each two people? I could supply 1984 Smith Woodhouse LBV, 1984 Warre LBV, 1986 Warre LBV, 1989 Ramos Pinto LBV, 1990 Churchill LBV (?), 1990 Offley LBV, 1991 Ferreira LBV, 1991 Graham LBV, 1992 Niepoort LBV, 1994 Osborne LBV, 1994 Ramos Pinto LBV, and a few newer ones.

wow Jay is a treasure trove for lbvs.

I'll see if i can start hunting down the vp equivalents and since it's my place if we dont have enough I can simply just run down and pick up other stuff
