Re: 1955 Quinta do Noval
N55: red-pink; only 30% opaque. Too thin for my taste, having past its peak a decade ago. Heat early palate; bitterness mid-palate; long. Rather ethereal.
In the second flight competition (Mk, Mz, Ni, N, O, S, T, and W) scoring 17 points, being ranked first by BMHR and second or third by all others except JDAW and AHB, for the Bronze Medal of this flight (and only slightly trailing nineteen-pointed Niepoort).

A little thin on entry and then hot in the mid palate and quite dried-out.
Christian Seely mentioned that he thought this bottle was "not typical".

Re: 1955 Quinta do Noval
Red mahogany in colour, 30% opaque. Gentle on the nose, with a pleasant and mildly fruity smell. Modest entry, with modest levels of fruit and a gentle acidic structure. Aeration brings out more fruit. Warm and pleasant afrertaste, full of orange peel and with a lingering finish. 86/100. Was significantly better a day later when it had put on substantial weight.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

A very christmasy character. Missletoe, burnt wood, and eggnog. A bit reticent and messy in the midpalate, but this was perfectly fine for drinking, and great in anticipation of December. 84 points

Color: Bright and vibrant. Very pretty in the glass.
Nose: Reticent.
Palate: Round, fruity, and full. Faint tar.
Finish: Just average, but that's a positive in that it didn't detract from the overall score. Stemmy fade. Nicely warm.
Score: 90 points. I had it tied for 2nd of the 2nd flight with the Mackenzie and behind the Taylor. Concensus had it 3rd behind the Taylor and Niepoort.
