1974 Warre LBV (unfiltered)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Traditional LBV, bottled 1978. Beautiful mature red colour, with only a slight lightening on the rim. Dusty raspberries on the nose, quite pronounced. Balanced entry, bringing sweet and dusty rhubarb that dominates the palate. Very soft tannins, almost hidden from sight and with lots of acidity giving structure. Some heat on the aftertaste leads to a delightful, dry sour cherry and chocolate finish. Amazing port for a 37 year old LBV. Clearly a wine to seek out and mature for a decade or three. 88/100. Drunk 10 Jan 2011.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
