Menthol on the nose - lots of heat - "fireside port".
My guess was Warre 1983.

Re: 1988 Smith Woodhouse Madalena
From a half bottle. Medium red colour, rose coloured rim. Coffee on the nose, with some mild blueberry fruit. Coffee and treacle impact, dry and tannic mid-palate. Hot and bitter, very dry. Lots of patience allows soft cherry candy to come through. Heat on the aftertaste; and patience suddenly reveals a lovely sweet candy finish. Guessed to be Taylor 1980. 86/100.
