This was weird for me and perhaps 48 hours might have been too much of a decant.

muted nose. I must admit that the 1980 was giving off too much nose for me to even smell this 85.

Dark chocolate and dried prunes on the palate finishing dry tannic and slightly bitter.

1985 (40+hrs)
Med/light burgundy color. I was surprised that it wasn't darker although the last time I had this wine was many years ago. There was definitely something weird going on with the nose. There was medicinal cherry fruit there as well as fudge and some spirit, but there's this strange odor dominating that to me smelled like new carpet - a little chemical-y or something? Possibly VA? It wasn't terrible but wasn't inviting either. The palate showed much nicer - light bodied, smooth, with silky tannins and raisiny fruit. Feels a little bit lacking in the middle and ends with a medium-long, dry finish. Nice, but I have a feeling it wasn't the best example. 91 pts
