2008 Quinta do Noval

Post by jdaw1 »

Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

N08. Purple, 90% opaque. Massively tannic, with acidity also obvious. Currently undrinkable. It may well become fabulous, but being sure is beyond my skills.

Quinta do Noval 2008 VP
Very dark and grapy on the nose. Huge explosion of flowers in the mouth, with some fruit and soft round tannins supporting them. Very good.

Delicious and expressive nose, full of sweet bramble and tart plums. Tight and tannic on the palate, furring the teeth but without losing focus or fruit. Quite elegant in its balance. Sweet and fruity aftertaste and a very long, blackcurrant finish. An impressive port. 91-93.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
