2004 Quinta da Romaneira

Post by jdaw1 »

Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

Ra04. Dark purple, 100% opaque. Heat. Primary blackcurrant fruit. Medium sweet, maybe medium+. Medium weight.

Quinta da Romaneira 2004 VP
Spicy fruit on the nose. Again very soft in the mouth but with much more robust tannins. Probably excellent after many years.

Deep red, opaque. Served slightly chilled because of the heat of the room. Warming gently in the glass releases bleuberry and lavender. Silky texture on entry, drying tannins and subdued ripe fruit. Tannins currently win the battle but the fruit is lovely. Chewy aftertaste, full of cocoa and blackcurrant. Perhaps a little closed. 88/100.
