Post by jdaw1 »

Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

DCM08. Squid ink, 90% opaque. To taste rich plum-like fruit, with heat mid-palate. Only £12+VAT.

Duorum 2008 SQVP
Vinha de Castel Melhor. Much more fruit than the 2007. Some floral elements too. Nice round tannins. Will be interesting to see how it develops.

I remember someone asking what the significance of Vinha de Castelo Melhor was but cannot remember the answer. Is it just a name?

Black and opaque. Very floral nose, open and sweet. Sweet blackcurrant fruit arrives late on the palate with very firm tannins showing under the fruit. Tannins release their grip on the aftertaste to allow a dry finish to show through. Good young port with good structure and balance. 88/100.

I didn't ask the price but if this is £12+VAT then it is excellent value for money.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
