2009 Niepoort cask sample
Cask sample. Deep purple in colour, sticking to the glass when swirled. Huge nose, masses of violets and intense blueberry. Smooth texture, biting acidy and punchy tannins The intense blueberry struggles to emerge from the tannins but air allows wonderful floral essence to come out. The acidity bites on swallowing and leaves a burn on the finish before fading to leave a very dry blackcurrant-skin finish of huge intensity and duration. A very impressive showing with a lot of promise for a glorious future. 93-95 / 100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
