1999 Dow Quinta do Bomfim SQVP

Post by JacobH »

Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

Dow 1999 SQVP
Quinta do Bomfim. Similar in colour to the Quinta dos Canais 199. Dense cherries on the nose, deeply tannic still in the mouth and, unsurprisingly very dry. Although I do not usually like this style, I thought this was fantastic.

Solid centre with a touch of maturity. Nose is surprisingly mature for a relatively young wine, full of attractive fruit. Fruit forward entry, medium-bodied and with tannins that show up after the fruit to take a firm grip. Very tannic for the level of maturity of the fruit. Big finish of fruit cake and spearmint. Surprisingly sweet for a Dow. Not sure where this wine will go with more age. 85/100.
