2000 Ferreira

Post by JacobH »

Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

Ferreira 2000 VP
Very little fruit on the nose, which was somewhat swamped by spirit. In the mouth, some cherries and other rounded fruit flavours, followed by a lot of heat which I did not like.

Deep red, still very young and with a lovely nose - fruity but gentle. Soft fruit in the mouth, very ripe, gentle tannins and a lovely soft bite. Delicious fruit on the finish, giving a mouthful of blackcurrant skins. Clearly following the classic Ferreira profile of elegance over power. Delightful. 89/100.

I love the way that at these sorts of events, two different people can get two totally different impressions of the same wine.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
