1977 Croft vintage port
Warm, mahogany in colour; crystal clear and about 40% opaque. Cedar wood and cocktail cherries on the nose, very attractive. Balanced entry, slightly acidic but with plenty of redcurrant; surprisingly dry, with some soft tannins showing. Lovely body and presence, the layers of flavour develop beautifully. Big aftertaste and a huge, spicy finish of incredible length. Very, very good - easily the best bottle I have had so far. Perfect fireside port. 91/100, drunk after 2 hours decanting.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Sounds very nice indeed.
Though - in your experience - is this somewhat like Ck'83 or Ni'97 in the lottery stakes?

Or a pretty good forgery, with a branded cork that was bagged out to be added to the cork pot.DRT wrote:No oranges. Not damaged. 91/100.

There is the faintest hint of what could become oranges in 20 years time...remember that Croft only seems to show oranges in old vintages. Anything from 1977 is clearly not yet old.
I've only ever tasted 4 bottles of Croft 1977 and have yet to have a bad one. Scores on these bottles have ranged from 85-89 with this latest being the best with a score of 91; all have been enjoyable. I even bought a case of this recently, which will sit in Octavian for a few years until I have some space.RAYC wrote:Though - in your experience - is this somewhat like Ck'83 or Ni'97 in the lottery stakes?
