1961 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas

Post by DRT »

Tasted at this event on 19th July 2011.

My brief tasting note reads:

"Vinegar nose - oranges - dry finish"

This wine wasn't good and, if my memory serves me well, was not liked by the assembled masses.

I have a sample in the fridge which I will taste soon and report back on.

The sample:

Lots of spirit on the nose - but a hint of prunes beneath. Quite volatile in the mouth - malt vinegar and lots of heat. The finish is the best of a bad bunch with this wine, lots of mint and quite long and warming but no fruit and a sickly sweetness on the end.

Strange stuff.
