1980 Fonseca

Post by g-man »

Popped and poured

Clear ruby red with a hint of purple. No signs of bricking at all.

Sweet strawberry nose backed with some alcohol woody spice.

A thick glycerol sweetness that's not balanced with acidity unfortunately and gives it a slight flabby taste on the palate finishing with a candied bitter root finish.

After an hour in open air, the sweetness fades a bit allowing some cranberries to follow through turning this into a pleasant port indeed. A certain amount of cinnamon appears too with some air.

Looks like one to drink up now.

89-90 after an hour in open decanter.

2 days later

Muted nose, touch of spirits and lavender

Strong spirits, glycerol and a strong woody finish.

This has lost fruit =(
