2009 Quevedo Sample Tinta Roriz

Post by JacobH »

Tasted at Single Varietal Vintage Port & a Gould Campbell 1985. Links to other tasting notes: A Port made just from Tempranillo; the famous fortified Rioja! ;-)

Much less colour in that Touriga Francesca. Some fruit on the nose but gentle. In the mouth sugary round fruit. Very pleasant to drink. Rather inoffensive an unexciting except for a slightly astringent aftertaste. I can see the attraction for using this as a base for a blend of Port with a little of the other varietals to flesh out the bouquet and palate since it was the most pleasant to drink unmixed.

The Tinta Roriz was my favorite from my sample pack also. I noted the same color difference and relatively neutral nose. It really does seem like a foundation upon which a great Port can be built.
