1966 Croft vintage port
Mid red in colour, bricking on the rim; 60% opaque. Mature nose, in the early stages of maturity. Concentrated and intense, perfumed nose - perhaps a little VA? If there is, there is not enough to detract from the nose. Thick texture in the mouth, huge impact of mature and concentrated fruit flavours with a lovely spicy acidity that is the perfect counterpoint for the fruit. Slightly hot on swallowing, but then a long and concentrated finish of spicy orange zest. Absolutely fabulous port - what all port would be if it was good enough. 94/100.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Pop and pour decant at TCP, English bottled
Simply fantastic - premier league - even on a 10-minute decant. Easily as pleasurable as the last bottles of F70 and G70 i have had. Significantly better than previous bottle tasted @TCP, suggesting some variation (but after 43 years in bottle, likely down to storage conditions). *****
