27 October 2011 ”“ London with StevieCage & RonnieRoots

Post by RonnieRoots »

StevieCage and I will be in London from 24 to 28 October. It would be great to meet some old friends again and meet some new people. The evening of 25 or 27 Ocotber are best for us.

I would propose a nice informal gathering: no placemats or themes, just a couple of bottles of good port and good company. :)

Anyone interested?

You have proposed a theme - good vintage port! One that will prove very popular I am sure.

Childcare arrangements make most informal gatherings a last minute thing for me but will follow plans in the hope I can join you both.

Currently, my diary would allow me to make either date.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Great! I'll keep the dates open for the time being, perhaps others are bound to one of the two.

Placemats are meant to be a help, not a punishment. If they are not wanted they will not be provided.

Nonetheless, I might be able to attend, but not sufficiently certainly that it is yet worth adding my name to the placemats.

I’m not sure what my work commitments will be like in October, but I’ll try to drop by for at least a glass of Port since it would be great to finally meet you both.

Would be great to see you again Julian.

I understand the value of the placemats, it's just that I find it slightly discouraging to have a large amount of glasses in front of me. Makes it seem like work. I prefer one (maybe two) glasses, relaxed tasting and casual conversation.

A provisional list of attendees:

1. RonnieRoots
2. StevieCage
3. KillerB (by e-mail)
4. AHB
5. DRT
6. RAYC
7. JacobH

Maybe / partly:
1. Ben Read
2. jdaw1

I already have a nice bottle in mind to bring. Looking forward to it! :)

Very strange. I am encouraged by a large number of glasses, as it makes it seem like more pleasure.

Have you seen the planning for this year’s Unknown Shipper at the Bell, and in particular the few-glasses placemats?

If Thursday, I am unlikely to be anything like punctual. If Tuesday, my expected time of arrival would be sooner.

This might be a controversial suggestion, but is there any desire to kick this tasting off with a couple of wines? (as was done in the TPF Offline #1)

My plans have now changed. I will be unable to make Tuesday 25th at all.

I am still able to make it into London on Thursday 27th.

Alright, let's do the 27th, the rationale being that a late show (jdaw) is better than a no show (AHB).

I have no objections at all to starting with a couple of wines, I like variety. :) But I'm happy to go with what the others prefer.

Having had a couple of weeks in the next job, I think I should be able to drop by for some of this at least, so I can be upgraded to the provisional list?

Narrowed my selection down to a few bottles - will see what takes my fancy the night before!

Time: 6.00 - 6.30ish...?

Location: TCP? Steak Exchange? Is one booked? I am happy to do booking admin.

If TCP, steak orders? Good on the bone rib-eye is available on request, but we should order this week. I will take one.

I have a pretty bottle in mind as well. :)

Let's do 6.30, that will make it a bit easier for Stevie and me to be in time. I always like TCP, so if you want to book, that's much appreciated. No steak order needed for me, I will just see what they have on the menu.

Looking forward to it!

I have also ordered 4 rib-eye specials. We can get more if needed.

I have a meeting in North London starting at 3pm. I should be able to make it down to TCP in time - but if I am late it will only be because I am relying on London Transport.
