Inky red colour, still with hints of purple with a solid rim; opaque. Still a little tanky on the nose with masses of blueberry and blackcurrant and with a lovely sage overtone. Lovely texture and balance on entry. Full of fruit but with a strong spicy acidic core. The tannins are hidden by the fruit, but are plentiful and strong. The finish is of dark chocolate and full of spice, changing to a sweet aniseed that slowly fades. Delicious and powerful - should have a terrific future. 93/100. Drunk 14 October 2011.
A wet winter, which gave good water reserves during a hot, dry growing season.
