Ni77: red-pink, 25% opaque. Nose ‘dodgy’. The same bottle stick (?) in the palate, but the texture full of Niepoort unctuousness. Great texture; shame about the slight stink. Rather too late in the evening the stink had gone, and the flavour was good but delicate.

Most evolved of 77s - this is not a young 77! Some bottle stink at outset, but faded over time to reveal dstinctive nose of burnt toffee (credit to AHB for identifying as i fumbled). Glorious texture - this is in a good place right now. Taking into account recent experience with this and this bottle - can definitely benefit from a generous decant. **** (91)

Very deep orange colour, 70% opaque. Burnt toffee on the nose. Sweet and generous texture on entry bringing rich, sweet burnt toffee to the palate; lovely balance between fruit and acidity. Sweet and flavoursome aftertaste and a finish of good length. Tasty port with a really nice palate but perhaps just a touch too sweet. 88/100. 4.5 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Another massive discrepancy.

Other discrepancies in S77, F77, Mg77, Cá77, and discussion later moved to Quantifying opacity in TNs.
