NV Quinta do Bucheiro Ruby

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Supplied by Quinta do Bucheiro, sold in the UK through Russell Mellor as "College Ruby"; bought as the College Port of Christ Church, Oxford.

Ruby colour, slight purple on the rim. Light and gently spicy nose, dominated by tart rhubarb. Light bodied entry, full of acidity, soft but sour bramble fruit and gentle, powdery tannins. Nice complexity on the palate, if rather light. Very tasty blackcurrant dominated finish of tremendous length. Overall, this is a light bodied and very youthful port, but is eminently drinkable - probably perfect College Port! 84/100. Drunk 9 Feb 2012 after 1 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

This did get better with more time in the decanter until, by Sunday night, the acidity had softened considerably to leave a dry, blackcurranty light and enjoyable port. 85/100
