Deep red and youthful, just less than opaque. Slightly dirty nose, bringing subdued purple fruit. Acidity and tannins are present, but the balance is a little off (not unusual in the 1997 vintage at the moment) and needs more time. Dry tannins show clearly on the aftertaste and floral finish. Difficult to score in this phase. 83/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Same colour as the 1994. Slightly musty smell. Slightly hot. Alcohol obviously present. Very little fruit. Some gritty tannins but less griping than the 1994. A bit disappointing
