1987 Quinta da Cavadinha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Only the second time I have had this port.

Half bottle. Light red colour, evolved; 50% opaque. Stewed fruit nose, prunes and a sharp acidity. Varnishy flavours on the palate, strongly acidic spoiling the balance of the wine. Dried out flavours, dried prunes, black coffee and a searing acidity. Lovely molasses finish of immense length and huge volume. A little thin on the palate and needing to be drunk up soon but pleasant enough. 82/100. Drunk 1 June 2012 after 1 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
