1958 Fonseca Guimaraens Mileau LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Fonseca Quinta Mileau; late bottled in 1964; UK bottled by Avery. Deep red, watery rim. Mildly corked on the nose. Sweet on the palate, but clearly corked. Attractive, despite the TCA.

In 1958 Mileau would have trod, fermented and fortified their own grapes under supervision from Fonseca's wine-making team. This would have been vinified in the year Taylor released Vargellas '58 as the first Vargellas labelled single quinta release. At that time, Taylor Fladgate owned Fonseca, but Fonseca was being run at arms length.

Two days later, the TCA had not faded and this was bitter and dry on the palate. NR. 13-Jun-12. Decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
