NV Villar d'Allen Tawny 10YO (bottled 2012)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 2012, blended by Miguel Braga. This is an early blend which may change before bottling. The plan is to bottle only in small runs - perhaps 1,000 litres (110 cases) at a time. Deep honey in colour, with a firm mahogany centre. Surprisingly little VA on the nose, just a sharp citrus acidity. On the palate this has a lovely smooth texture, and gentle flavour profile and a soft acidity - lots of dates and dried fig. Gentle mocha on a gentle finish. This is a very gentle and elegant wine. 86/100. 15-Jun-12.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

VdA10Y: cloudy, also mahogany. Strong heat early palate, with caramel (rather than the 20Y’s fudge), and no dairy. Very long with a hint of mocha and vanilla late palate.
