Bottled 2010, blended by Claudia Quevedo. The recipe for this wine was created by son and father Tomas and Jose Allen, who were blending base wines and older Quevedo wines searching for something which tasted very similar to the best of the 19th century wines in the Villar d'Allen wine archive - which goes back as far as 1756! Something was missing from the blends until a tiny amount of Noval 1827 was added - giving the perfect blend for Villar d'Allen's return to the port scene! Claudia Quevedo then successfully met the challenge of being able to replicate the flavour profile of this perfect blend.
Deep brown and intensely coloured, 40% opaque. Deep and powerful nose; thick and rich on the palate. There is an intense concentration of flavour with strong supporting acidity. There is a lovely, big treacle aftertaste and a very long finish. This is an exquisite tawny port. Only 500 bottles were filled with this blend. 93/100. 15-Jun-12.
This is probably the best 20 year old tawny that I have ever tasted; UK retail price is likely to be around £45 per bottle when it ships to the UK in due course.

Re: NV Villar d'Allen 20 year old tawny port
VdA20Y: mahogany red, 40% opaque. Nose had cedar, and a slightly milky fudge. Palate starts soft, then heat, with fudge again milky huge late palate. Really liked.
