1952 Niepoort Colheita (bottled 1973)

Post by jdaw1 »

On the Wednesday before the 2012 Olympics we were guests of His Excellency Dr João de Vallera, the Portuguese Ambassador to the Court of St James, at his official residence, wherein we had two bottles of Port from each summer-Olympic year, 1948 to 2008.

Bottled in 1973 - wood for 21 years, bottle for 39!

RHS bottle (THRA, RAYC, jdaw1): nice, but tastes slightly tired and oxidised. Even so, this is a pleasure to drink *** (87-88)
LHS bottle (WS1, OQ, DRT): sweeter, fresher, more youthful with lively acidity, much better complexity - this bottle is really singing **** (90)

Ni52c (mine): tired brown, medium rich.

Ni52c (other): brown, green at rim. Slight smoke on nose. Richer, bual perhaps, bigger and longer.
