1994 Niepoort

Post by Chris Doty »

Looking over notes from prior tastings with TPF crew, I found myself craving some port last night...

From a 375ml bottle, the '94 Niepoort continues to impress me despite its dormant / pubescent state. While less of a blockbuster than the 94 Vesuvio, I think the wines share a certain purple verve and general balance which makes them both quite excellent. Blackberries, violets, and plums. The heat grew somewhat stronger as time went on, which I'm not entirely sure what to make of, but this was a lovely little wine that will likely be at optimal drinking from 2020-2035

89-90 points today, 91-93 potential.

Good to be alive!

Been missing you lot. Re-read a few threads the other day viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3713 and it made me want something sweet.

Hoping to come across this Fall. Can't believe it has been so long since I've visited.

Cheers

You would have loved the Fonseca / Warre tasting - I was really surprised at how well the Warre stood up to the Fonseca.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
