O65 crusted, brought by Wolfgang. Dark red, 40% opaque. Faint nose. Medium weight, great length, some fruit still showing. There was a hint of dirt (grit?), that WS described as ‟blue collar”. Though lighter than ideal, an enjoyable well-made wine.
Wine Society, blend bottled in 1965. Deep red centre, with an orange rim; 60% opaque. Mature concentrated oranges on the nose, fully characteristic of a mature VP. A lovely freshness shows after a swirl in the glass. Thickly textured on entry, bringing a velvety coating to the palate. Lacking a little intensity, but air allows a strong and concentrated kumquat to develop. Intense aftertaste, with dry cheeks and a long length. Delicious port, and still showing some tannic structure. Very impressive. 90/100 and my wine of the night.
