1988 Dow Quinta da Bomfim

Post by jdaw1 »

The preceding two bottles of DB88 having been bad (same evening, before), another was tried.

DB88, from half. Initially red-orange, but time improved this to a good red with 30% opacity. Nose slightly stinky. Early-palate some some red berry, pleasant enough, but a gentle stink appeared mid-palate and carried through to the end of the long late-palate, by which time the taste was more red cherry. Drinkable, perhaps even pleasantly.

But I’m not delighted with my purchase of a dozen. :-( I will henceforth decant early.

The following evening still quite orange. Nose a little sour. Taste pleasant enough to drink. Red berries, good length, acidity much softened, some late-palate dryness. Drinkable.
