1945 Sandeman vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

S45: orange-pink, 30% opaque. Light, with a hint of alcohol. Taste light, hot. some VA. Alas imperfect. JDAW, January 2013

Light orange in colour, cloudy and very pale. A touch of VA or tones of oxidation on the nose, showing faint peats in syrup. Soft entry, very light bodied with little other than tertiary brown sugar, cloves and a hint of aniseed. The VA and pears lurk in the background with the subdued acidity. More lively on the aftertaste with a burst of lime and then a long, hot and dry charcoal finish. The previous two bottles have shown much better than this one. 84/100. 4 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
