1994 Quinta do Vesuvio vintage port

Post by TLW »

This was the wild card of the evening, and given its youth, we decanted it first thing in the morning. Opaque, dark ruby. Upon pouring a glass, one of the evening's participants declared "cradle robber". The nose was closed. It was hot and still felt unknit with lots of flavours - figs, oranges, and raisins - but seems to have many, many years to go. Good length, but astringent.

At decanting plus one day, it still had not really opened up too much, although had a raspberry nose.

Another day did not change it too much.

Hmmm.... It feels very large, but seems that it will need MUCH more time in the bottle, and will probably leave the rest of what I have of it alone for a few more years before trying again. Will give this one another decade or two before having an opinion.
