1963 Van Zeller Colheita

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

VZ63C: 80% opaque, brown. Taste very sweet, with lots of heat. Medium+ size. Great late-palate fullness. Very colheita. Lovely throughout. JDAW, January 2013

Bottled direct from cask on 19/1/13. Deep red mahogany, 50% opaque. Big colheita nose, Red Delicious toffee apples! Thick and concentrated on the palate, then a searing acidity bites the tongue. Layer after layer of flavour and complexity. Patience just makes this stunning. A big burst of heat on the aftertaste then a long - very long - concentrated bitter marmalade finish. Absolutely brilliant. 94/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
